For 20 years, Scott Elkind has been a leader in long term disability insurance benefits claims and litigation, with extensive experience in claims and litigation governed by ERISA. He has helped the disabled and injured all over the United States, and is known throughout the insurance industry as a formidable advocate for his clients.
Scott ran a successful law firm based in Maryland, Elkind & Shea, also known as The Disability Benefits Law Firm, for 18 years, before merging his practice with Schwartz Conroy & Hack.
Scott has held many leadership roles throughout his career, starting with founding the Student Chapter of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), followed by founding and heading the Social Security Disability Section of AAJ. He also served as the Chair for the Health and Disability Benefits Litigation Group of AAJ. In addition, Scott served as the Chair of the Social Security Section for the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.Scott has a bachelors degree in biology, with honors, from Union College, and a masters degree in forensic sciences from George Washington University. He has focused most of his career assisting persons obtain long term disability benefits, AD&D benefits, and long term care benefits, from both individual and group policies.
Scott currently resides in Costa Rica with his wife and works exclusively on individual insurance recovery benefits cases, with an emphasis on long term disability benefit cases. His hobbies include scuba diving, zip lining, golf, basketball, reading arcane non-fiction, watching sports (avid Giants/Yankees/Capitals fan), and taking care of his beloved dogs.
