Teaching Insurance Law to the Legal Profession

Earlier this month, my partner Matthew Conroy and I presented a 1.5-hour lecture on “Best Practices in the Representation of Professionals in Insurance Fraud Matters.“

I have been teaching various aspects of insurance law to lawyers for 20 years, have taught insurance law at law school, and have lectured to lawyers in various Bar Associations and continuing legal education programs in New York and other parts of the country.

Continuing Legal Education

Technology growth in recent years has allowed my lectures to be available for online viewing by not only attorneys, but also the general public. The largest online continuing legal education provider in the country, www.lawline.com, currently has 10 of my lectures on various topics, mostly Insurance Law, many of which were done together with my partner Matthew Conroy.

Lawline is a site used primarily by attorneys to gain knowledge and to fulfill their mandatory continuing legal education requirements so as to keep their law licenses active. The website and its contents can be viewed by anyone, however, and anyone can purchase an annual subscription or pay for each course on an individual basis.

Representative Topics

All of my presentations are videotaped live and are available for rebroadcast on www.lawline.com. Some of the topics available for viewing include the following:

  • Long-term care claims and litigation
  • Long-term disability litigation
  • Insurance recovery litigation in general
  • Insurance fraud
  • Representing professionals in liability insurance coverage matters
  • Ethically representing parties in insurance coverage matters

My most recent lecture with my partner Matt focused on the representation of healthcare professionals in dealing with insurance fraud. Some of the topics we discussed include:

  • Fraud in the delivery of healthcare services
  • Fraud in the procurement of patients
  • Fraudulent corporate structure of healthcare practices

The program can be found here.

I hope the programs give you valuable insight into making insurance companies keep their promises.
