Harold Levy represented a mortgage company in numerous lawsuits involving mortgage brokers, appraisers, property owners and realtors for fraudulent property flips in a huge scam in New Jersey. The mortgage brokers/realtors would find houses in distress, give homeowners pennies for their interest but not file transfer deeds or pay existing mortgages. Then mortgage brokers/realtors would get inflated appraisals, get a straw buyer to purchase the property for nothing down, mortgage the property for more than its worth. Upon obtaining the proceeds, they would then pay existing mortgages, and keep the balance. The scam was so large that a major player, #1 on New Jersey’s Most Wanted List, was subsequently killed in a gunfight.
Mr. Levy litigated various cases related to this scheme, all successfully. In one case in federal court, he obtained a large settlement for his client, the mortgage company. In another, he obtained summary judgment in state court in New Jersey. In yet another case, our client pursued a discrimination claim related to the scheme, and Levy won that too. In a fourth case, Mr. Levy litigated against a party in several different courts, doggedly pursuing the client’s claims and he ultimately succeeded in obtaining a significant recovery for the client.
